DIY Face Maks to get Rid of Hyperpigmentation


Hyperpigmentation is nothing but the dark patches found on the skin, necessarily not a condition. It is due to the excess production of melanin in our bodies. Usually, hyperpigmentation can be seen on the outer part of the body like the face, neck area, hands, and legs. 


It happens because of several reasons including, overexposure to the sun, aging, skin inflammation, etc., Though it cannot be completely cured at once, it can be reduced and we can get rid of skin hyperpigmentation in a course of time if used continuously and patiently.

It also gets rid of unwanted impurities and specks of dirt that have been hiding under your skin for a very long time. If these facemasks are used consistently and patiently for a while, it minimizes the appearance of hyperpigmentation on your skin.  

PAPAYA AND HONEY MASK: For those who wish to be free from uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and sunburns, papaya and honey mask make wonders on your skin. 

HOW TO MAKE IT: Take a tablespoon of honey and mix it with a needed amount of mashed papaya. Apply it to the affected area. Leave it for ten to fifteen minutes then wash it off. 

LEMON AND TURMERIC: Lemon is rich in Vitamin C which helps in even tone. Turmeric has antioxidants that help in minimizing sebum production. It makes your skin to be free from acne marks. 

HOW TO MAKE IT: Mix two tablespoons of turmeric powder with one tablespoon of lemon juice till it becomes a thick paste. Now apply it on your face and wash it off after it gets dry. Pat it dry and use it regularly. 

TURMERIC AND HONEY MASK: Turmeric and honey have an abundance of antioxidants that help in getting rid of inflammation. It also evens skin tone and reduces the darkness of the skin.  

HOW TO MAKE IT: Take a teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it with one teaspoon of honey. Apply it on your face and gently give a massage. Let it sit for ten minutes and wash it off with warm water. Don’t forget to moisturize your skin. 

BANANA AND LEMON JUICE MASK: Banana helps absorb the excess oil and lemon cleanses the pores. Applying this mixture to your skin may dry out your skin. So, add a few drops of olive oil as it moistures your skin. 

HOW TO MAKE IT: Take a mashed banana and mix it with a few drops of lemon juice and olive oil. Apply it on your face and let it sit for a few minutes. Then wash it off with lukewarm water. 

CUCUMBER AND ALOE VERA: Cucumber and aloe vera facemask retains the moisture of your skin and makes it maintain its hydration. 

HOW TO USE IT: Take half a cucumber and grind it into a paste. Mix it with a needed amount of fresh aloe vera or a tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Gently massage it and wash it off after it gets dry.   

TURMERIC POWDER AND ROSEWATER: Adding aloe vera helps in calming the redness and irritation of your skin. Rosewater helps in soothing inflammation and turmeric gets rid of bacteria and dirt. These three ingredients can make wonders on your skin. 

HOW TO MAKE IT: Take a teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it with one teaspoon of aloe vera gel and half a teaspoon of rosewater. Apply the mixture on your face and gently give a massage. Let it sit for ten minutes and then wash it off with cold water. 

TURMERIC AND MILK: Turmeric is rich in antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that help to get rid of pigmentation and milk softens the skin by moisturizing it.

HOW TO MAKE IT: Mix a tablespoon of wild turmeric and two to three teaspoons of milk. Apply it to your face and let it sit for ten to fifteen minutes. Wash it off after it gets dry. 


There are certain do’s and don’ts while using a face mask. They are; 


  • Do cleanse your face before applying facemask as it allows the ingredients to easily penetrate into your skin. 
  • Apply the facemask and let it sit on your skin for at least 10 – 20 minutes as it helps to absorb the goodness of the ingredients. 
  • Apply moisturizer after washing the facemask as it adds up hydration to your skin. 
  • Choose an over-the-counter facemask if your skin is prone to acne or blemishes as it won’t clog your pores. 
  •  Wash off the facemask with cold water as it closes your pores. 


  • Don’t scrub too hard on your face, it may irritate your skin and give redness. 
  • Don’t use a facemask if your skin is allergic to any of the ingredients(patch test is recommended before using).
  • Don’t apply it every day. Use it two to three times a week (be patient but consistent). 
  • Don’t let the facemask be on your face for a longer time, it may dry out your skin. 
  • Don’t talk or eat after applying your facemask, because it may lead to wrinkles. 

A regular skincare routine can minimize of the appearance of hyperpigmentation, acne marks, and even control excess oil production. But you don’t need any expensive medication or fancy spas to get great results. Just by using the kitchen ingredients and a few homemade DIYs, we can easily reduce the visibility of hyperpigmentation and even improve the complexion of our skin.
